Good recipe, however, I fabricated a few changes. Afterwards slicing I put three chopped leeks and an onion thru my nutrient processor and then sauted in butter (not margarine). I then added simply four potatos which I cubed. While that was happening, I fabricated a roux and added it to the mixture. The broth came adjacent. Subsequently the potatoes were tender, I whirled them in the food processor to requite the soup a velvety consistancy. Once back in the pot, I then added fat free half and half and topped with chives and crumbled bacon. Wonderful soup and thanks and then much for a GREAT start Michele!
12/24/2001
I sauteed the leeks in bacon grease for the added flavour... and the second fourth dimension I made this soup I sauteed ii chopped stalks of celery and a chopped small onion. I as well put iii cups of the potatoes in my blender and pureed to thicken the soup.
09/xiv/2007
Such an amazing soup. I used 4 potatoes, and 1 big white onion. put them in the humid water until the potatoes were really soft, and so pureed them, put them back in the pot, and added the sauteed leeks. just astonishing....my husband was amazed with the gustatory modality and the combo of tastes. the onion does a very nice change to it. a keeeeeeper...
11/sixteen/2005
This was my beginning time to brand white potato and leek soup and this recipe was SUPER easy. I did use whole milk instead of the cream and added some salt, pepper, and garlic. I loved this soup and it was great for a rainy, cold day. Thanks so much for a quick, easy, and delicious soup!
xi/22/2005
Splendid and very easy to make!! I did add celery and onion to the mix and thought it added an extra bit of flavor.
03/31/2006
This was the showtime time I've employ leeks and was plesantly surprised how tasty they are. Next fourth dimension I'll use one more than leek and a few more potatoes. One proffer.... When y'all dice up the potatoes make the pieces fairly pocket-size (bite size).
05/13/2006
This soup is delicious and filling, a meal by itself. I used whole milk instead of cream and a one.5lb bag of French Fingerling potatoes (with skins)...YUM! Leftovers (if at that place are whatsoever!) need a little bit of milk because the soup gets pretty thick in the fridge. I will definitely brand this ane again!
11/07/2003
Excellent easy soup. Like some of the other reviews, I added salt, fresh ground pepper, and cayenne pepper.I as well used milk instead of foam, and mashed some of the potatoes. I call up I will effort calculation celery next time. My hubby and I loved this soup. Thank you for a bully recipe!
ten/28/2002
I used half and half and the soup was even so rich and very tasty.
02/05/2002
Neat soup! Even my picky grandmother enjoyed this one. Very easy...I volition definately arrive over again.
02/eighteen/2008
I didn't have any cream so I topped information technology with some fresh feta cheese and black pepper. Perfect!
ten/09/2003
The soup had a cracking consistency simply I institute it to be a fleck bland. I added bounding main salt, fresh ground pepper and dill which helped a lot though.
08/26/2010
I really liked this soup, although I did add together a few touches. I added onion and mushrooms to the leeks while they were cooking. I also didn't add as much heavy cream, I used half and half. I salted and peppered the onion, leek and mushroom mixture while it was cooking as well.
10/31/2001
My hubby, nine mo. old daughter and I all dear this soup. I have made this soup at least 10 times in the past year and each of my invitee love information technology.
01/13/2003
A neighbor gave me some leeks, which I had never tasted before. I found this recipe and tried information technology, and information technology became one of my favorites. I added bulk Italian sausage to information technology, which added to the flavor. It's gotten rave reviews from my husband and friends!
11/19/2006
groovy kickoff, but I changed it around just a bit. I used modest yukon potatoes, veggie broth, irish cream butter, and half and half instead of margarine. I too added more common salt and pepper as suggested, and a dash of garlic table salt. Put some chives on height for colour, and delish! Thanks for the pointers and getting me started.
03/thirteen/2003
Instead of leeks, try this with kale! Also add a few links of skinless italian sausage to the potatoes while simmering and near 3/4tsp blackness pepper to add spice. I found I use much more craven broth, and much less foam than the recipe calls for.
xi/04/2010
This gets 5 stars for ease but only 3 for sense of taste, hence the four star rating. Don't forget to add salt and pepper or whatever seasoning you like! I added a flake of garlic pulverization and celery. Next time I will add some fresh, minced garlic. This is a keen base recipe and I can't wait to play with it some more than. Everyone loved the results.
04/04/2011
Nosotros loved this soup! I used half Yukon aureate potatoes and one-half red potatoes, left them unpeeled. Very pretty colors. I don't employ canned broth, instead utilise chicken soup base and water, so used enough liquid to cover the potatoes. I zapped well-nigh a tertiary of it with the stick blender, perfect texture. Eyeballed the corporeality of cream. I would have added some chopped kale for some color balance if I'd had any on hands. And followed the advice to add some cooked bacon. Reheated information technology the next day for dinner, and it was even ameliorate!!
10/07/2011
This soup is truely comfort food. It is piece of cake to make and everyone in our family, correct down to the grandchildren, loves it. It tin can be served either hot or cold and is every bit good either way. I did add some pepper but because the chicken goop is so salty, I didn't add salt. It didn't need it. To save time and endeavor, I sauted the leeks in the soup pan and then added the broth and potatoes and simmered until the potatoes were soft. I put everything through the food processer for 45 to 60 seconds then added half and half. Heat it up a petty and it'south washed. It's hard to believe that soup this good tin be this like shooting fish in a barrel. Thanks, Michelle, for sharing this wonderful recipe
x/08/2001
I had really big potatoes so I simply used 4. I also added 1 more can of chicken goop. After we had eaten some of the soup my husband said information technology was also rich (I had used the heavy cream) and so I concluded up adding a 3rd tin of broth (I and then mashed upward some extra potatoes to thicken it back up). It really was adept but the heavy cream made it quite rich for us then I think side by side time I will make information technology with half and half or milk. I garnished with some parsely and served it with rolls. This is not bad for cold days :). Will make again and might add together some minced ham to it as well.
03/19/2006
My husband and I admittedly loved this soup. I did substitute fat free half and half for the cream though, it was withal great.
05/01/2003
I crave this soup! Easy & delicious. I recommend using half & one-half instead of cream, and flavor the soup with cayenne pepper. Absolutely scrumptious! Cracking recipe.
04/03/2011
Past far 1 of the easiest, most tasty irish potato soup recipes. The leek makes the soup much more flavorful!! Fifty-fifty my picky eaters loved this. No changes necessary.
01/09/2011
This is a great soup. The leeks provide a subtle flavor that is only right. Thank you for the recipe.
eleven/16/2011
This soup is and so good! I used 3 leeks and added some thyme to the potatoes while they were cooking, I as well added some cayenne pepper to give information technology a kicking. Instead of heavy cream I was going to add together soy milk but I forgot, I remembered after we ate it and apparently we didn't miss information technology, it tasted great.
08/nineteen/2010
Simple and delicious! What'due south not to like?
12/21/2010
This was an easy, quick recipe my kid was able to make. But bated from the heavy cream, information technology didn't have a lot of flavor. Nosotros had to modify it once information technology was done. A practiced outset though.
10/07/2011
This is a delicious and comforting soup for fall. I added onions and garlic to the leeks when I sautéed them. Information technology added a lot of flavor. I too added a chip of bounding main salt and fresh cracked pepper. Very nice recipe. This is a keeper.
12/thirty/2008
This soup was very practiced and piece of cake to brand. I served information technology in a breadbowl -- yum!
11/16/2004
Really tasty soup. So like shooting fish in a barrel to make, too. Used veggie broth instead of chicken and ane% milk instead of cream and it still concluded up delicious. Super thick -- even using fewer potatoes and some more milk than the recipe called for. I'd say four medium-to-large or v minor-to-medium, but 6 potatoes would have been way also many for what I made.
05/21/2000
This potato leek soup was merely neat...not only was it piece of cake, but very pretty....I added some fresh chive blossoms equally a colorful decoration! Will cetainly make once more!
01/28/2006
I brand this recipe so often, that I only realized I forgot to come up back and rate information technology. This is simplicity at information technology'south best, only tastes like gourmet!! I Honey this recipe with some fresh scones!! Merely the perfect meal to warm your basic on a cold winter 24-hour interval!!
07/19/2003
Very easy to ready, and and so good to swallow! I didn't accept cream (or one-half and half), so I substituted ane 1/2 milk and 1/4 butter. Information technology was very tasty this mode besides! AJ
01/31/2011
Easy and delicious. I make this every few weeks and the whole family loves it. The only modify I make is substituting veggie broth for the chicken goop (I'm vegetarian). Endeavor it. It's delicious!
08/21/2009
Like shooting fish in a barrel recipe that was super yummy! I did make a slight alter in the cooking method by humid the leeks with the potatoes but otherwise I followed the recipe. Could apply more flavour, but a great starting signal!
ten/23/2005
Thanks for the recipe I used whole milk still came out thick, so thick that when my husband got habitation from the gym and warmed it up in the micro information technology turned out similar mashed potatos. This was the first fourth dimension I ever worked with leeks it was super piece of cake and tasty, made my whole kitchen smell divine.
01/21/2006
But awesome soup. Disappeared in one day! Nosotros will exist making this one once more.
10/07/2006
I used a quart of Craven broth, added enough of fresh ground pepper, and sauteed the leeks (I used iii) in clarified butter. I also only added 1 cup of heavy cream. Mashing some of the potatoes is a great thought!
03/28/2009
It tasted okay, every bit written. I used slightly less potatoes, and one-half cream, half ii% milk, and that fabricated it soup-like. However, once I added in shredded cheddar cheese, it became Phenomenal. Every bit listed, iv stars. With cheddar cheese added, 5 stars!
03/26/2011
Perfect!!
03/16/2006
I'm currently making this for the second time. Concluding time it was supposed to be an appetizer and it ended upwards being the entire dinner! (with French Breadstuff - the recipe for four was all gone - and there'south only 2 of usa!) I did apply milk instead of cream (didn't accept whatsoever)I exercise recommend using more leeks than called for and rather than using a "masher", use one of those immersion blenders for a "smoother" consistency. BTW: If you notice the soup to thick, just add more milk.
09/26/2011
Very adept - I put shaved parmesan on elevation of the hot soup in the bowls - it melts slightly and I think was a slap-up touch.
10/07/2010
Very tasty! Very thick, more similar a stew than soup. Added common salt and pepper also.
10/11/2006
Succulent! I added some common salt and pepper for a little actress flavor. Leftovers the side by side day were even improve.
09/29/2007
This was good, simply I was looking for an AWESOME recipe and thought this was a piddling bland. I added some bacon, onion, cheddar cheese, and pepper to brand it more flavorful. Next time, I think I'd endeavour a recipe for baked spud soup instead.
10/25/2010
I used vegetable stock instead of chicken and added 1 onion to the leek mix, plus some garlic and fresh ground pepper. I also used an immersion blender (or "stick blender") to make this creamy and not mesomorphic earlier serving. Topped with grated cheese and crumbled bacon (for the non-vegetarians), this was delicious and VERY filling. Too - fast and like shooting fish in a barrel, inappreciably any mess! Bully fall or winter meal and reheats well for dejeuner the next day.
06/05/2000
This is so tasty. I used all one-half & half. Excellent!!!
10/29/2011
This is the first fourth dimension I made Leek and Potato soup. I used this recipe equally a base of operations and made some changes. I cooked some bacon in a fry pan. Then added ane Cheyanne pepper, 1 stalk of celery, one diced medium onion, a sprig of fresh thyme and 2 cloves of minced garlic. Then added the leeks (both green leaves and stalks). Finally calculation to the softened potatoes and broth mixture .I also left out the foam, mashed some of the potatoes and left it a piffling mesomorphic. Information technology was succulent and you didnt miss the foam. My young man said it was astonishing particularly with the kick of the cheyanne. Oh, I likewise added fresh basis black pepper on top. Delish!!!!!!!!!!!
09/24/2006
This was fantastic "Comfort Food". I substituted 3 Bouillion Cubes and 2 cups of water, also added 1 small onion, 3 cloves of garlic and whole milk. Absolutely OUTSTANDING!!!!
08/23/2010
And so elementary and so good! I used a little less heavy foam and more chicken broth. I sauteed half an onion, a clove of garlic, and 2 stalks of celery with the leeks. I too used about a i 1/2 tablespoons of real butter.
ten/19/2006
This soup is fabulous, then easy. Every time I go far, I gustatory modality information technology thinking information technology must need some spices or something, and am e'er shocked at how good it is. The simply modification I make is to substitute vegetable broth for the chicken goop since I'm a vegetarian. My married man (meat-eater) loves it besides, just our two-twelvemonth-quondam doesn't like potatoes, so he doesn't like information technology.
09/05/2011
I followed this recipe to the letter. It was delicious, filling, piece of cake, inexpensive and quick to make.
11/23/2010
Bang-up recipe. I likewise cooked the leeks in bacon fatty and at the end I added a scattering of freshly grated parmesan cheese and a drizzle of good olive oil. Succulent!!
03/12/2006
This recipe was super easy to make. I found it velvety and rich. Although the soup was more than like mashed potatoes and needed a little option me up (pepper or a shot of hot sauce)my family and I really enjoyed this soup. No demand to add then many potatoes unless you are going to use milk instead of the heavy cream. I also would recommed using three leeks. We will definately use this recipe once more. Thanks so much for sharing!
06/04/2007
I followed the recipe and concluded up having to puree the entire thing because information technology didn't look that flavory at all. I definitely suggest pureeing with about a tablespoon of salt.
03/10/2008
Absolutely fantastic - loved it - First soup I've ever made and everyone agreed it was delicious :)
09/16/2012
I cooked the leeks in the aforementioned pot I used for the potatoes to save washing an extra pot. Too, utilise Yukon Gold potatoes for an amazingly silky texture that doesn't fifty-fifty need cream added (I just thinned with milk). Mmm, leeks!
09/29/2010
Neat recipe...I just don't get though. But rate the recipe as is. If you want to change it completely, so submit your own. Seems similar no one on this website can admit that someone else can melt something decent.
09/25/2008
i had to add twice as much goop, simply it turned out well. probably won't brand it once more unless i have leeks and potatoes sitting around. ):
10/28/2008
I dislike it when recipes don't listing ingredient quantities in cups. An indication of vegetable size would assist even. Anyway, I made this with three big potatoes and ii very large leeks, and it definitely needed a lot more than liquid. Information technology turned out tasty but made way more than iv servings.
09/22/2008
We made this equally part of my Kitchen Production class at school - being experienced in the kitchen I saw how lilliputian liquid the potatoes had to melt in and wound up adding 2 1/2 cups more. The poor other grouping made information technology as written and wound up with potato glue. The recipe needed table salt and pepper badly, also, and definitely could take used less fat for sauteeing the leeks. Afterward my alterations, it was a good soup, but equally written, you'd need a fork to eat it.
04/25/2010
I fabricated this for my begetter and although he loved information technology, information technology was a little thick. I will try some milk and lite cream next time.
12/05/2007
I did not like the texture of this soup. I had to add an extra can of broth to make it work. It tasted OK when topped with crispy onions. I used the foam and it was a scrap cloying. I volition try with milk next time. Too added a lot of seasoning and an onion.
02/16/2009
I combined three White potato and Leek soup recipes from this site, Information technology turned out great and the leftovers were even better than the starting time nighttime.
10/31/2011
Delicious!! I pureed the soup after it was cooked, rather than just mashing information technology. Kids loved information technology, husband loved information technology. I even shared a flake with my assistant. she'due south making information technology tm on her day off. Shared the link with friends on FB :) Simple ingredients, straight-frontward instructions, great flavour! Thanks!!
02/27/2012
I used this every bit a starting point, merely did not add chicken broth. I added spanish onions because I had some actress in the cupboard. I put in 8 cloves of garlic, some fresh ginger and then to thicken it I used milk, cheese and butter. I would probably add flour adjacent time to make a roue before adding it to the soup. I also used a "Braun" hand-blender to blend the soup to get a nice creamy texture. Loved it!
11/05/2010
Very creamy recipe enjoyed by all. I added brocoli and mixed all cooked ingredients in my Bullet than added cream. Very proficient texture. No table salt required.
05/21/2011
Everyone LOVED this.... added misc. spices and footing beef... half of the potatoes were already boiled (left overs from the day before) and the other half I boiled in chicken goop only for this..... SUPER YUMMY!
12/23/2006
Really good for when you don't take very many things virtually the business firm. I substitute milk and it nonetheless comes out lovely.
11/21/2013
This was a pretty good recipe. Information technology could use some table salt and pepper though.
xi/12/2010
information technology's hearty, chunky, and deliciously flossy!! the hubby and i both had second helpings, it is a wonderful and piece of cake dinner for a weeknight, especially in the autumn and wintertime. thank you for sharing!
08/thirteen/2008
Very good! Did demand to thin it out a piddling equally it was like mashed potatoes, but great flavor.
12/31/2007
Wonderful recipe! I added a little salary and a mixture of half & half/ 2% milk instead of the whipping cream. My oldest son (19 years one-time)who doesn't eat onions had 2 bowls...
07/23/2009
My hubby and I really liked this soup. I did not have whipping foam so I used 2% milk, too I used diced chunks of Jack Cheese, yum. A flake of table salt and pepper and my picky fifteen yr old grandson finished the pot.
01/28/2011
It's pretty good, but a trivial bland. It could definitely use some salary or ham - that would put information technology at five stars, easily.
06/04/2011
I used about x potatoes and a box and a half of chicken stock (52 oz?) I boiled the potatoes in the stock for nigh 20-25 minutes. I added the leeks after sautéing them in butter. And so I took the whole lot and used my blender (this is a cracking place for an immersion blender, but my mom didn't have one.) Then, I added the cream and a fiddling common salt and pepper. The kids LOVED it! My ten yr former said information technology tasted like the restaurant (Sweet Tomatoes), so that'south loftier praise.
05/22/2000
So simple but all the same and so adept. Goes neat with a lilliputian slice of cornbread. Yummy
03/17/2001
This is a pretty tasty soup, merely beware, the fatty content is extremely loftier. Did y'all know that 1 tablespoon of heavy whipping cream contains v grams of fat?!? Next time I may substitute some if not all the heavy cream. Other than that, it'southward a pretty simple recipe to follow.
11/02/2011
This recipe was super like shooting fish in a barrel and disappeared in a flash! ... thanks Michele for sharing as it is definately a exercise over in this household. Just as a minor note for those that question the use of other milk product...I didn't have the whipping cream (35%) and then added two% and information technology was still fantastic! ;)
11/02/2008
A slap-up recipe! Added a few things that made it amazing... From others' suggestions, I sauteed two stalks of celery, half a large onion, and two minced garlic cloves with the leeks/butter, and substituted skim milk for cream. I also added a tsp of cayenne and a tsp of paprika (I might add together fifty-fifty more next fourth dimension b/c I like a skilful kick). While the veggies were sauteing, I besides browned thinly sliced chicken breasts that I had rubbed with salt/pepper/random spice mix I found. After I added the veggies and milk to the potatoes, I blended the soup with my immersion blender until it was velvety. Then, I shredded the chicken and added it to the soup so I could become some protein. YUM! Easy and perfect for a cold nighttime.
09/06/2006
This is a smashing tasting soup! I took the advice of previous reviewers, and I used 2 potatoes, which was plenty. The leeks were fantastic! Instead of using 1-ane/2 cups of cream, which I felt would be too rich, I used ane/ii loving cup of foam and 1 cup of fat free milk, along with a lot of pepper and a fair amount of salt.
11/07/2010
I was actually disappointed. I thought it was banal and needed a lot of table salt and pepper. I would non make this again.
07/12/2010
Very skillful! Very rich and even cheesy. To avoid the texture of the leeks I put the mixture in a blender save a loving cup or and so of some smashed potatoes to requite information technology a little body. I added a little onion and garlic to the leeks when they were sauteing (butter vs. margarine) likewise as a bit more than broth to the mixture and some table salt and pepper. Very rich and yummy with the cream!
10/eighteen/2010
Used fresh leeks from the garden - used thyme, sage and sweet basil and it turned out fantastic!
12/07/2009
I love the simplicity of the ENTIRE meal. I picked the recipe because I didn't want a agglomeration of flavors going on (simply a personal preference for White potato Soups). It could not take been easier to pull this soup together! Only thing I added was salt and pepper, and an additional tablespoon of butter while I was sautéing the leeks. I used an unabridged pint (2 cups) of heavy whipping cream. I didn't have a potato masher so I used a mitt mixer correct in the pot. It turned out creamy and thick - but one can add more broth or foam/milk for a runnier consistency. Yummy! Perfect for the cold weather days of December. We'll enjoy the left overs tomorrow.
10/04/2011
Delish! A few things I did differently other than altering amounts. I always thicken white potato soup with either a grated potato or instant white potato flakes. I added some white wine (sauvignon blanc) cooking it down a few minutes before adding the cream. I also added some chopped onion to the leeks and carrots with the potatoes. Thanks for a solid base recipe!
02/07/2007
I made this soup final week for a change, it was all quick and really easy. Fifty-fifty my family have been taking it to work for luncheon. A keeper.
03/12/2010
And so skilful! I substituted my homemade vegetable goop, used butter instead of margerine, and threw in some onion. Just what I was needing on a chilly afternoon!
09/09/2007
Very skillful and extremely piece of cake! I used 5 potatoes, iii leeks and butter rather than margarine. I couldn't fathom not using cream... any excuse for me to use foam I take. We eat so healthy in my family unit we need a little extra now and and then.
01/21/2012
I brand this all the time. Super easy and fast. Good to add for a starter for a large grouping of guests. For myself I'll make it and information technology lasts iii days for me. Definitely my all time favourite recipe to brand.
10/01/2010
Super like shooting fish in a barrel and tasty soup. I left out the milk or cream altogether and just added some seasonings and it was delicious! I did use my stick blender to get in nice and smooth too. Definitely making it again.
05/22/2000
My family loves Murphy soup.. this is the fastest, easiest and the Best
06/25/2006
Add butter instead of margarine. It tastes so much better.
03/17/2005
Excellent recipe! I used milk instead of foam (to make it healthier), and it turned out excellent still.
xi/09/2006
This recipe is so piece of cake then good! My boyfriend adds chili powder or hot sauce, and I'm unremarkably good with just adding common salt and pepper. I tend to use more than butter/margarine when cooking the leeks. Served with french bread makes for a perfect dinner!
11/13/2012
This was so good and not very difficult at all! I followed other reviewer's communication and used 3 leeks and 3 potatoes, fabricated a roux and so stirred in the broth, garlic powder and celery common salt (no fresh celery), so pureed til mostly polish with a few soft chunks. Added about one-half of the amount of one-half-and-one-half but next time I'll try just using milk. Got rave reviews on this one - thank you!!!
01/21/2005
And so simple and and so skilful. Imagine spending Christmas 24-hour interval at Epcot, Disney World in the pouring rain. At present imagine sitting in their English pub eating this delicious soup. Information technology warmed united states upwards for the rest of the solar day. This recipe was verbal. My whole family loved it.
11/08/2006
Quick and easy recipe. The family loved it, fifty-fifty the picky eaters. I will exist making this again and again!
